Hi!

Anybody still reading this? Could be fun to kick back into gear :)

Ben!

I want to hear more stories of mowing from Ben! I, at least, thought that last one was side-splittingly hysterical, and I'm eager to be regaled with more tales.

Congratulations to Jake

I was just thumbing through the Telluride Association newsletter I received recently, and stumbled upon Jake's name in the affiliate notes section near the back. It seems that four of last year's TASPers were selected as Presidential Scholars (there are only two from each state), and our very own Jake was one of them. Sorry if I screwed up any of the details, but congratulations all the same!

Card Games

Card Games

What was the name of that card game that we played frequently, with trump and that was kind of like euchre (for those of you who know what euchre is)? It had something to do with like bidding and a decreasing hand size every round, that was somehow dependent on the number of players? Additionally, what were the rules for that game? I'm trying to teach my friends a non-euchre, non-poker card game, and that seems ideal. Shoot me an e-mail at dankessler@comcast.net if you remember...

Thanks!

College Scoreboard

The UMichigan Blog Experiment

Well, I thought I'd trot out my results, in typical scoreboard fashion.

Accepted
1. UMich (Woo!)

Waitlisted
1. Harvard
2. Yale
3. Columbia

Rejected
1. Princeton
2. UMich Telluride House

UMich has offered me a somewhat egregious amount of money with very few strings attached, and I believe that I will be withdrawing from the waiting lists at Harvard, Yale, and Columbia, bringing closure to the whole experience and walking away when I want to, not when I am forced to. Congratulations to those of you whose dreams came true, and my condolences, sympathy, and empathy to those of you who were disappointed.

UMich Telluride House Blues

So I applied to the UMich Telluride House. I really put a lot of effort into the essays and began them earlier, much to the surprise of my family and self. I know that interviews have to be conducted this week and next week, but I'm flying for Spain on Saturday. So, thinking ahead, I e-mailed the house and asked to know when to schedule an interview.

I was informed that I would be interviewed only if I made it to round two. While this shouldn't have surprised me, it did, because I didn't understand from the website that it had the same sort of tournament feel that the TASP application process did. So, Sasha, a girl from the house, informed me that if I was indeed selected for the interview process, she would let me know straight away on Monday.

Possessing the fragile ego of an easter egg, I've checked my e-mail many times so far today, but no e-mail from Sasha, and it's already like 5:15...

UPDATE 45 SECONDS LATER

I cleverly decided to check my voicemail. I had one message. It was my mother informing me that a man from the house had called to setup an interview. Salvation comes through the phone and not through e-mail today.

Well, that concludes my nervous musing. Hope you're all doing well!
